Awareness on Transport Month and the benefits to logistics

25th November 2021

This year, for Transport Month October 2020, the Department of Transport in South Africa has chosen the theme: “Together shaping the future of transport." The aim of the month is to showcase transport infrastructure services (aviation; maritime; public transport and roads), create awareness of the economic benefits and important role of the transport sector in the economy as well as invest into the sector to stimulate development and create jobs.

The objectives, investment and awareness for transport month can only push the logistics industry forward. For example, consider the Transport month’s objective for observation and advancement in South Africa’s road safety initiatives. Road safety is an area of consideration for any logistics company in South Africa as it can cause major asset losses, casualties and of course costs for both the company and the client. While the road transport sector still faces serious challenges, this month’s developments show signs of a positive future for all who rely on this essential sector. According to a special report by Mail & Guardian, South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) made a recent announcement that it would be spending in excess of R25-billion on road infrastructure*.

Such a significant contribution to road infrastructure will play a critical role in South Africa's economy. Besides enabling easier movement of people, it makes the transportation of goods and services efficient and faster—thereby enhancing productivity within the economy. This is good news for logistics companies who are transporting their client’s products throughout Southern Africa as they'll be able to be more efficient in terms of time and money. These benefits to logistics companies means obvious benefits to those looking for logistics services, however patience is required to reap the rewards of a growing and improving third-world infrastructure like South Africa.

As everyone knows, “a watched pot never boils,” meaning that those in the logistics industry cannot take the attitude to watch and wait for SA’s infrastructure to get where it needs to be. Waiting and anticipating will only make time seem to move more slowly and the goals seem still far away! At Syakhulisa Logistics, a proactive approach is always taken. Regardless of the hurdles and circumstances in South Africa, Syakhulisa focuses on building strong ties to key networks as well as continuously improving on their processes for safe, efficient, and professional fuel transportation, while supporting road infrastructure initiatives like Transport Month which can only boost industry and economy.
