Name of the Project
Avezzano mill – Line 2 rebuild and conversion project.

Location
Avezzano mill, Italy.

Burgo Group.

Project Description
The project will rebuild and convert the Burgo Group’s Line 2 – a printing and white-writing-paper machine and its approach system – into a modern brown-packaging-paper machine.

After full conversion, Line 2 will have a production capacity of more than 200 000 t/y, with a design speed of 1 200 m/min and a paper width at reel of 5 340 mm.

The machine will produce corrugating medium- and two-ply testliner, with a basis weight range of 80 grams per square metre (gsm) to 170 gsm to produce container board.

The raw material is recycled old corrugated containers and mixed waste paper.

The project includes a new stock preparation line with a design capacity of 700 bone dry metric tonnes a day. The line comprises a pulping system with a pulper, cleaning, screening, fractionation and thickening system, as well as a reject handling system.

The existing approach flow system will be rebuilt, and a new deaeration system will be installed.
