Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) chairperson and MD Thomas Schäfer has been appointed chairperson of the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM).

Former AAAM chairperson and Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa president and CEO Jeff Nemeth returned to the US on June 8, following the end of his tenure at the American carmaker’s Pretoria-based operations.

Nissan South Africa MD Mike Whitfield remains AAAM vice-chairperson.

The AAAM is committed to the development of business and trade relations in the automotive field, including vehicle and components manufacturing, between South Africa and other African countries.

The AAAM is also assisting a number of African countries with the formulation of automotive development policy options.
