Air compressor offers selection of operations

The Xbox compressor offers multiple functionality

A range of optimised size-to-flow air compressors aims to provide a simple, efficient, robust and reliable machine that delivers optimal performance in stringent working environments.

Atlas Copco states that its innovative Xbox range is the result of ten years of continuous air technology development and that the company’s engineering capabilities allow it to provide a large standard portfolio with a number of options available to industry.

The Xbox compressor is engineered around a triangle of size, flow and fuel consumption and incorporates Pressure Adjusted through Cognitive Electronics, or PACE, technology into the XAHS 400, XAVS 600, XAHS700 and XATS850 models.

Programmed via a digital controller, the electronic pressure regulation system regulates the relationship between pressure and flow, allowing multiple pressure and flow combinations. By delivering a wide operating pressure range within a single compressor, smart technology enables customers to cover the application needs of up to three fixed pressure compressors with one machine.

The company asserts that the ability to cover more applications increases utilisation and improves fuel economy, thereby optimising compressor efficiency, especially at partial load or idle status. It further notes that the functionality of three machines in one package has the potential to reduce both capital and operational expenditure, thus lowering total cost of ownership.

The compressor’s T3 electronic power unit features FuelXpert as standard. This patented fuel saving system promises fuel efficiency by up to 15% at partial load. The engine is also equipped with a smart air controller for enhanced compressor control and efficiencies. The IP65 rated XC2003 air controller features a liquid crystal display colour screen and a fully integrated engine control unit to facilitate diagnostics. The engine is also fitted with heavy duty filters and an additional fuel filter.

The Xbox range claims a service interval of 1 000 hours for the compressor and 500 hours for the engine. In addition, a simple vessel cover and easy-to-reach components facilitate servicing and maintenance.

With a standard operating temperature range of -10 °C to 50 °C, the compressor series is able to perform in dusty, hot and cold environments at high altitudes of up to 4 500 m. The range is compact and lightweight, facilitating transport and manoeuvrability around a job site. The compressors are seen to be particularly suited to handheld tools, ground engineering drilling, shotcrete blasting and directional and waterwell drilling in the construction sector, for dimensional stone quarry and blast hole drilling in mining operations as well as for utilities such as cable blowing and abrasive and dry ice blasting.
