The African Development Bank (AfDB) group on Monday approved a grant of $3.04-million to finance a feasibility study at the Kholombidzo hydroelectric power plant, in Malawi.

The Malawi government would contribute $230 000, or 7% of the total study cost of $3.27-million.

The grant was aimed at delivering a full bankable feasibility study for the future development of a power generation project to contribute to the expansion of electricity generation capacity in Malawi.

This would address electricity shortages and enable the delivery of reliable energy and the expansion of electricity access in the African State.

The study was consistent with the objectives of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy II, which emphasised the establishment of a foundation for long-term economic growth through improved infrastructure and investment climate.
