Project Description
The project is a 150 MW dispatchable renewable hybrid plant, which includes a 442 MW solar photovoltaic installation and about 1 200 MWh of battery storage. The installation will be one of the largest in the world.
Project DAO also includes a significant transmission integration scope, with transmission substation capacity upgrades and a new distribution station. This will facilitate access to the grid for other renewable projects in the area and help alleviate the Northern Cape grid congestion.
Potential Job Creation
The project will reach about 50% in local procurement during the construction period and create more than 1000 construction jobs at peak, with about 25% from the local
community.
Capital Expenditure
$800-million.
Planned Start/End Date
Operations are scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026.
