JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South African water treatment technology company Prentec, which on Friday celebrated its fortieth year in operation, planned to intensify its focus on mine water treatment solutions, which MD Stewart Buchanan said had become the company’s “biggest business”.

He outlined at a celebratory event that the group’s vision going forward would be to continuously evolve and develop innovate new technologies that would be more efficient and cost-effective, reducing its clients’ overall operating costs.

Prentec had provided water, sewerage and industrial effluent treatment technology solutions to several large-scale clients – including energy utility Eskom and mining major Exxaro – since inception in 1974.

“We have expanded our know-how into mine water treatment and Prentec’s new-generation mine water treatment solution incorporates years of experience in process technology, manufacturing and engineering implementation.

“Our modular systems use this experience to achieve low-capital, low-operating, low-energy and low-waste solutions to mine-affected water problems, enabling the treated water to be discharged into water courses or converted to potable water,” he outlined.

Prentec also offered “tried and tested” sewage treatment plants on a turnkey basis and was able to design and build anaerobic treatment processes for high chemical oxygen demand waste treatment and energy recovery.

The group further specialised in ion-exchange process plant technology, water treatment consulting and contracting engineering services, the design and construction of industrial effluent treatment and the provision of potable and process water preparation plants.
