Ambassador Thembi Tambo, in dark glasses, stands between President Jacob Zuma and her brother, Dali Tambo, who is himself flanked by his son, Oliver Tambo, at the unveiling last month of a statue of the late Oliver Reginald Tambo. The 2.5-m-tall statue of the former African National Congress president has been erected at the airport that also bears his name, OR Tambo International Airport, in Ekurhuleni. Depicting his return to South Africa in December 1990 after 30 years in exile, the statue has been unveiled as part of a series of events to commemorate the centenary of OR Tambo’s birth on October 27, 1917.
