Energy is a prerequisite for sustainable economic growth in Africa and has been at the forefront of discussions on Africa reaching and maximising its growth potential. Without reliable and continuous access to energy, Africa’s most vulnerable remain disempowered and disenfranchised.

Africa’s premier energy event, the tenth Africa Energy Indaba (#AEI2018), brings together businesses, organisations and leaders that are committed to powering Africa and are looking for energy solutions across the oil and gas, renewables, nuclear, coal, hydro, biothermal and biomass sectors in Africa.

The prestigious event, that draws heavyweights from across the continent and globally, will be hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre, the heart of the African business hub, from 20 - 21 February 2018. Attracting energy experts and enthusiasts from across South Africa and the continent, the 2018 African energy landscape will be debated and decided between government and private sector officials.

Africa Energy Indaba receives the highest level of endorsement and support for any energy event: It is the regional event of the World Energy Council (WEC), having been supported by the WEC since 2011. The event also enjoys strategic partnerships with the South African National Energy Association (SANEA) and the African Union’s NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA). With the support of these key players, Energy Indaba’s status is elevated locally as well as globally above other energy events.   In addition it is the only major energy event hosted on the continent, organised by Africans, for the benefit of Africa!

The annual “Africa Energy Indaba Week” provides leading content, a gathering of energy leaders and the opportunity to meet movers and shakers to do energy deals! The 2-day energy conference is complemented by an exhibition as well as a number of exciting side events.

The side events include:

Africa Gas Forum
The 3rd Africa Gas Forum will address Africa’s oil and gas potential which will grow significantly over the next two decades, driven by population growth, urbanisation and the emergence of a wealthier middle class on the continent. Africa is endowed with natural resources that are changing the global energy landscape with six of the top 10 global discoveries in the oil and gas sector in 2013 being made in Africa. The event takes place on Monday 19th February 2018.

Women in Energy Conference
The 4th Women in Energy Conference aids the increase in leadership and development of women involved in the African energy space.  This one day forum will provide a platform for women to network, share their knowledge, discuss achievements and encourage the advancement of women across all sectors of the energy industry. This event takes place on Monday 19th February 2018.

Nuclear Forum
The 8th Nuclear Forum will discuss the development of the nuclear build programme in South Africa and the opportunity for localisation, skills development and access to business opportunities linked to the planned build programme. In addition, the discussions will explore the importance of nuclear in the energy mix.

IPP & PPA Conference
2018 promises to be another active year for independent power producers and energy projects throughout the sub-Saharan Africa region and across various technologies. There is international investor focus on IPPs due to the power shortages and load shedding in the region and the increasing demand for energy amongst the region’s growing economies. Opportunities for projects using both renewable and thermal technologies are expanding. The 5th Independent Power Producers and Power Purchase Agreements Conference (IPP & PPA Conference) will once again take place alongside the annual Africa Energy Indaba conference in Johannesburg on Thursday 22nd  February as an official side event.
