Global technical services company TÜV SÜD’s inspection services were awarded South African National Accreditation System accreditation to South African National Standard (SANS) 17020 in March this year, in line with the expanded development of the company.

The scope of accreditation covers the Manufacturing and Inspection of Pressure Equipment as contemplated in Regulation R 734 of July 15, 2009, as well as In-Service Inspection of Pressure Equipment in accordance with NBIC 23, SANS 1518 ADR.

TÜV SÜD is an internationally accredited certification body for various management systems servicing a range of industries. TÜV SÜD offers auditing, assessment, validation and certification of management systems in the sectors of quality, sustainability and information technology security, among others, and offers certification in a variety of internationally recognised standards, including International Standard for Organization (ISO) 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 50001; Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series 18001 and International Automotive Task Force 16949.

Further, TÜV SÜD South Africa uses the services of both local and international competent and experienced auditors with extensive knowledge of the local and regional markets. The company offers support with internal standards by offering second party audits for the supplier and dealer networks of companies, as well as in-house quality management training.

In addition, the global presence of TÜV SÜD auditors and trainers facilitates the quality assurance for global players. Registered auditors have met the requirements of high-level qualifications as well as extensive hands-on experience, coupled with quality assurance and experience exchange workshops. TÜV SÜD holds international accreditations, including that of German Accreditation Body, or DAkkS, ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board, or ANAB, Joint Accreditation Systems of Australia and New Zealand, or JAS-ANZ, and the training accreditations of International Register of Certificated Auditors, or IRCA, as well as Quality Management Center, or VDA-QMC.

Companies who use TÜV SÜD as their certification body will be able to leverage off the use of the TÜV SÜD certification mark.

About TÜV SÜD

TÜV SÜD is a global technical services company providing inspection, testing and certification services. In 2017, its annual revenue was €2.5-billion. TÜV SÜD offers an end-to-end solution for the entire business life cycle and, in South Africa, this service offering continues in the local environment.

TÜV SÜD Industry Services (IS) specialises in non-destructive testing (NDT) and inspection services using conventional and advanced NDT methods on new production weldments. Based in Middelburg, the IS division has been serving the power, paper and pulp, mining and chemicals, oil and gas sectors for the last 22 years, with all inspection, NDT, quality assurance and quality control, and metallographic replication services.

Previously trading under TÜV SÜD Pro-Tec, which was established when Pro-Tec, originally established in 1996, was incorporated into the TÜV SÜD South Africa group in 2011, the employee base at present is approximately 300 and the division provides services at most of Eskom’s power plants in Mpumalanga and surrounding areas.

Moreover, TÜV SÜD has proactively invested millions in the procurement of the latest equipment this year, taking into consideration the specialised NDT methods, with a bigger focus expected on digital radiography and small-bore phased array testing of welds in pressure equipment.
