Trolley and jig fishtailing prevented with new castors
The uncontrollable ‘fishtailing’ of towed trolleys and jigs – used in the manufacture of vehicles, for transportation of various vehicle components within a factory – can be prevented with spring-loaded automatic directional castors from wheel and castor company Tente.
A common problem when towing swivel castors, is the castors’ tendency for uncontrolled side-to-side or oscillating motion under towing conditions. This phenome- non causes excessive wear and damage to the wheel treads and the bearings of the wheel fitted to the castor. The castor swivel head also sustains unnecessary wear during fishtailing.
Tente’s 468S P63 range of towable spring loaded automatic directional reverse castors are specifically designed to stabilise the fishtailing effect. These castors were launched to the South African market in the first quarter of this year.
The 468S series is fitted with precision bearing spring-loaded directional cams to automatically stabilise the castor in the direction of travel when towed or automatically reposition the castors if they are lifted off the ground.
The directional system automatically engages through rotation of 180°.
When a trolley or jig, fitted with the 468S castors, is hand-pushed, the castors provide an automatic directional steering system in line of travel. However, the 468S series’ directional system also allows the user the flexibility to easily manoeuvre the trolley or jig in any direction without the need to manually lock, unlock or press any external levers to achieve directional movement in any direction.
The castors are available in sizes from 125 mm to 160 mm and 200 mm, and are also available with a total-lock foot-brake option.
