Transnet has announced that its chief executive for Freight Rail, Ravi Nair has resigned following his suspension in March.

Nair was one of four executive committee members who was suspended with immediate effect at the time.

The other executives who were also suspended comprise:

Nonkululeko Sishi, the group human resources officer

Mlamuli Buthelezi, the group chief operating officer and

Shulami Qalinge, the chief executive: Transnet National Port Authority

At the time Transnet said it was of the view that the executives' continued presence at the workplace had the potential to jeopardise investigations into their alleged misconduct.

"Transnet is a business in transition. The primary aim being to restore confidence and deliver on our mandate. We therefore need to be deliberate about improving our corporate governance and establish leadership - informed by principles of integrity and accountability," it said.

"The journey also involves taking difficult decisions with the view to restoring confidence in Transnet."
