With the recent oil and gas finds throughout Africa, local content development has been highlighted as an area that needs to be focused on to improve skills development across the supply chain and add benefit the local economies.

A number of African countries, such as Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana have developed solid local content policies.  Angola, has successfully implemented its local content programme which means that 70% of all employees in the oil and gas sectors must be nationals.  Angola has also set up a Sovereign Wealth Fund so that oil revenues can develop other sectors of the economy.

The African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA), has taken the initiative to launch the 1st Africa Oil and Gas Local Content Conference and Exhibition (ALC) with a focus of “Achieving an average rate of 30% of local content in different oil and gas activities in African Petroleum Producing countries by 2030”

With the support of H.E. Eng José Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos, Minister of Petroleum, Republic of Angola, and H.E Mahaman Laouan Gaya, Executive Chairman of the African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA), the first Africa Oil & Gas Local Content & Exhibition (ALC), will take place from 15 – 17 November 2016 in Luanda, Republic of Angola.

ALC 2016 will bring together delegations from APPA member countries (Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Congo DRC, Côte D’Ivoire, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Libya, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan and Tchad), industry players and decision makers with the specific goal of stimulating industrial development through increased local capacity by finding solutions to the challenges of meeting localization requirements and building the local skills set across the hydrocarbon industry. 

ALC 2016 has been designed specifically to find solutions to challenges of meeting localization requirements and building the local skills set across the hydrocarbon industry.

ALC 2016 is the platform for the development of a strong collaboration between public and private sector to make local content viable for all oil and gas stakeholders.
