Sulzer Pumps South Africa – one of the country’s leaders in the design and development of pumping solutions for the oil and gas, hydrocarbon processing, pulp and paper, power generation, water and wastewater, food, metals and fertiliser markets – has been in operation since 1922 and currently employs 480 people.

Its product range includes single- and multistage pumps as well as barrel casing, multiphase and axially split and vertical pumps. The services it offers include research and product development, application analysis, manufacturing, the packaging and testing of pumps, pump installation and pump operation training. Sulzer also has dedicated service centres that provide support for customers.

Sulzer, which is 25%-owned by Sakhumnotho Pumps, a company controlled by historically disadvantaged South Africans, has its manufacturing facility at 9 Gerhardus road, in Elandsfontein, on Gauteng’s East Rand, as well as sales offices and service centres in Durban and Welkom and in the Zambian town of Chingola.

Among the major contracts the ISO 9000-, 9001-, 14001- and 18001-accredited com-pany was awarded during the past year were the supply of ten large dewatering pump sets to a copper mine in Zambia, the supply of three large dewatering pump sets to a gold mine in South Africa and participation in a water infrastructure project to augment the water supply to Gauteng province.
