Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC) has invited African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson Moussa Faki to visit Khartoum for urgent talks after the AU Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) on Monday warned that unless the TMC handed over power to a civilian government Sudan would be kicked out of the continental organisation.

The invitation was delivered by TMC member Lieutenant Jalal Al Tayeb who arrived earlier in the week in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to update him on the political situation in Sudan following the ouster of former President Omar Al Bashir during the April 11 military coup, the Sudan Tribune reported.

According to al Tayeb, Faki had expressed understanding for the reasons that triggered the coup.

Faki, however, said in an April 11 statement that the military take-over, and the TMC’s decision to take power for two years before handing power over to civilian rule, was not the appropriate response to Sudan’s ongoing political turmoil.

Meanwhile, Sudan's new military ruler General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan has sacked the country's prosecutor general following protesters demands.

"Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan has issued a declaration sacking the prosecutor general Omer Ahmed Mohamed," the council said in a Tuesday statement.
