South Africa State Information Technology Agency (SITA) MD Dr Bongani Mabaso has asked to be released early from his five-year contract to pursue his interests elsewhere.

The SITA board has accepted his request and has informed Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Mondli Gungubele.

Mabaso was appointed to the position on April 1 this year.

The board has appointed SITA consulting services executive Ntutule Tshenye as acting MD, with effect from December 9, while it undertakes a recruitment process for a new MD.

Mabaso is currently serving his notice period and will use the remainder of the month to prepare a handover report and brief the acting MD on major and strategic projects to enable a seamless transition.
