Sasol Energy awarded five bursaries to five deserving learners who attended the 17th annual Learners Focus Week, hosted by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. These bursaries have been awarded for University studies in the fields of engineering (Electrical, Mechanical and Civil) and includes the following:

• 100% of the prescribed University tuition fees, registration fees and exams fees. 
• Student accommodation at a University hostel, at the University where the Sasol bursar is studying. 
• A contribution for meals based on three meals per day as determined by the University. 
• An amount towards book and pocket money.

Learners Focus Week is a career guidance programme facilitated by the Department of Energy. It targets learners who are studying mathematics and science at high school level, encouraging them to pursue STEM-related careers at Universities. A number of learners have been selected from the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng. Every year LFW is rotated to a different venue and province. 

Every day, the demand for skills in the energy sector continues to grow and for Sasol Energy, the investment in skills development focus primarily on the development of human capital.  

This makes the annual Learners Focus Week (LFW), which was hosted from 1 to 5 July 2019 at the University of Pretoria, a golden opportunity to reach learners and exposed them to potential career paths and opportunities to pursue their further studies. 

“Sasol Energy is closely aligned with the goals of the Learners Focus Week,” said Gosiame Khoele, Vice-President: Strategy & Regulation at Sasol Energy. “We aim to promote career development in the energy sector for learners at high school level. The learners who attended the week long programme were informed of the processes involved in applying for Sasol bursaries. In addition, each of the approximate 300 learners received Sasol beanies, scarves, gloves and jackets.
