South Africa’s fast-growing Safety Training, and Testing, Inspection & Certification powerhouse, Safety SA, has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, Pieter Erasmus, effective 1 May 2021. Erasmus replaces Karl Campbell who remains involved with the group in a non-executive capacity, thereby retaining access to Campbell’s knowledge and experience.

The move comes off the back of two years of acquisitions and strategic repositioning for Safety SA, a business services & solutions group which encompasses AssureCloud, SafetyCloud and MetrixCloud.

Following the mantra ‘Life is Precious’, Safety SA’s products and services span occupational health and safety, OHS training and certification, environmental and food testing, quality assurance, and digital solutions.

The group is built off the acquisition of the NOSA group by the Carlyle Group in 2018 and subsequent bolt-on acquisitions of Deltamune’s testing business and SAI Global’s South African operations.

Erasmus, an experienced business leader, who has been with the company for three years as a member of the Safety SA executive team, brings a wealth of industry and management experience to the position.

Mike Belton, Chairman of Safety SA says: “Pieter has proven himself to be an extremely valuable part of Safety SA’s transformation, bringing an innovative approach and thorough understanding of the business and the industries the group serves. The board of directors is confident he will lead Safety SA to deliver on its growth ambitions while continuing to serve our customers well.”

Erasmus reports he is ready to take on the challenge of leading the group into its next phase of expansion: “Karl has made a significant contribution towards creating a platform for growth with significant investments having been made in our systems, our service portfolio and our people. I believe the group is now more efficient and responsive, and uniquely positioned to serve as a single point of contact for our clients’ health and safety, testing, OHS and risk management needs across Africa and internationally. I believe we are on track to become the leader in the broader safety sphere.”
