RS Components a global multi-channel provider of industrial and electronic products and solutions, will be joining more than 700 exhibitors at this year’s Nampo Harvest Day.

The annual exhibition takes place over four days and showcases the latest advancements in technology, equipment and tools to benefit the agricultural industry in South Africa.

Grain SA, the organisers of the event, received 425 new applications for exhibition space for the 2019 Nampo Harvest Day, which is taking place from 14 to 17 May 2019 in Bothaville.

Jannie de Villiers, CEO of Grain SA said that 775 exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services at the four-day event. He also added that Nampo created opportunities for direct communication between the suppliers of agricultural products and services and the users thereof.

“Agricultural suppliers’ competitive edge depends on direct communication with the users of their products and services. The interaction between buyers and sellers drives innovation, improvement and modernisation. It also affords producers the opportunity to compare products and prices,” he said.

MD for RS Components South Africa Brian Andrew said that showcasing the company’s products and services at Nampo was a ‘natural fit’ for the business. “We find ourselves in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and smart connected devices are becoming the norm - in our homes, our offices, the manufacturing industry and now even more so in agriculture. By adopting technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), farmers can arm themselves with more detailed data about their farm as well as provide important information regarding the macro environment to assist in planning their crops more accurately to drive a better yield, while eliminating risk. RS has a number of IoT devices and solutions that will help enable the agricultural industry on their journey towards the fourth industrial revolution.”

The adoption of technology in agriculture also requires that various stakeholders work together.

In a report done by the University of Stellenbosch for the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, while agricultural technology will result in higher yields, reduced costs and improved nutritional value of foods, it needs the farming sector, government and education institutions to work together.
