Arguably one of the most successful initiatives undertaken by the South African government since the advent of democracy has been the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). While some find the process overly bureaucratic, there is little question that the REIPPPP has added much-needed credibility to the country’s nascent renewables sector. With each successive round, prices have fallen, local content has increased and more and more bids have been received. Pictured above is a person looking at one of the slides presented at the official unveiling of the latest 17 successful projects.
