From humble beginnings in 1982, Reliable Transformers (RT) has grown into a leading manufacturer of transformers and related magnetic components, with customers across Southern Africa and beyond.

In its 4000 m2 custom-built factory in Benoni, South Africa, RT uses advanced computer numerical control (CNC) cutting, bending, routing and coil-winding equipment to produce state-of-the-art products on time, every time.

The company’s strong design team produces almost any type of transformer. RT has developed custom transformer-design software that eliminates the need for prototyping, while allowing for predictable costs and guaranteed lead-times.

In-house software development has given RT a competitive edge in the market. The company develops and designs a range of software; from transformer computer-aided design and modeling software to document management and CNC machine control. RT’s advanced production management software is particularly useful for accurately predicting job-completion times.

In 2017 RT embarked on an expansion project that more than doubled its manufacturing capacity, introducing a number of new, advanced machines and methods.

After successfully completing its first 86 MW solar project in 2016, RT was recently awarded a contract to produce solar photovoltaic-converter transformers for three solar plants, with a combined capacity of more than 250 MW.

RT is proudly TUV Rheinland ISO 9001:2015 accredited. The company’s team, led by Andre van Zyl and Sesa Pillay, has an optimistic view of the future, with a vision to continue the positive growth of the company.
