Owing to blast managers or team members working under dangerous conditions on mines, drone service provider Rocketmine will be releasing a new live object-detection system this year, which will assist in managing preblast inspections and safety checks, says Rocketmine marketing and quality manager Kelly Clark.

“The system will enable us to provide a live feed of the blast area, providing blasting teams with a bird’s eye-view of all potential objects and risks within the blast radius.”

The system can also intelligently track people, equipment and vehicles. Teams will be better equipped to make critical decisions faster, allowing for safer and more cost-effective operations.

Clark explains that testing on the actual object detection has already started on a few of the company’s mine sites.

Moreover, Rocketmine’s PPK multirotor drone technology is available for companies that require an increase in data accuracy and a significant reduction in data processing times.

The technology provides high accuracy inspection and geo-referencing of high walls.

The advantages of the technology are that it provides consistent and accurate data across the survey area, faster processing times and improved safety, as staff no longer need to go into hazardous areas.

Once the data is captured and fed into Rocketmine’s three-dimensional (3D) visualisation software, a company can detect cracks in the high walls of a mine quickly.

The software also allows for detailed inspections of any assets and can identify the high-quality still images of the 3D model for detailed analysis. Annotations can be made and marked on the model and shared where needed.
