At the seventh edition of the yearly Italian Automation Fair (SPS Italia), held in Parma, from May 23 to 25, a number of power transmission components companies showcased a range of power transmission and motion control solutions.

SPS Italia is a growing exhibition with a focus on automation, systems and components, which saw a need to highlight the latest innovations in industry.

Power transmission components provider Altra Industrial Motion Corporation, which showcased its range of power transmission components, says its components generated significant interest for visitors.

Motor gear manufacturer Bauer Gear Motor also displayed a range of geared motor solutions for multiple application requirements for operations in potentially explosive environments, such as in the wastewater industry. Bauer showcased its range of Atex-rated motors and the new, highly efficient EX-rated IE4 PMSM drive.

In addition, the aseptic and stainless steel HiFlex drive range, which was recently expanded with a new model that incorporates a BK04 gearbox that can operate to 80 Nm, was on display. Further, the new EtaK 2.0 decentral inverter was available for viewing, offered as a helical, shaft-mounted bevel or worm-geared device with a mounted variable-speed drive.

The company’s motor and coupling solutions were on display at Huco Dynatork’s stand at the event. The Dynatork 3 air motor, a drive that offers low-cost, efficient and reliable performance for applications in sensitive environment, was also on display. The motor is Atex Zone 1-rated and incorporates engineering company Huco’s free-floating piston technology, providing efficient spark-free operation for demanding applications. In addition, Huco highlighted its flexible coupling range by means of a see-through display.

Electromagnetic clutch manufacturer Matrix International focused on standard and customised servomotor 1EB brakes. These spring-applied, electrically released brakes offer low backlash and torque ratings from 0.1 Nm to 500 Nm. The design offers high torque in increased ambient temperatures in a compact package, with increased performance in smaller spaces. The 1EB series brakes operate with reduced noise and can be externally mounted, simplifying maintenance and allowing easy retrofitting.

Electromechanical equipment manufacturer Warner Electric and Warner Linear displayed a selection of specialised brake products and actuators for various industry applications. Of interest to visitors was the X-Small brake, the smallest spring-set holding brake currently on the market. The device is designed for applications where every gram or centimetre counts, but where the same performance as that of a similarly sized permanent magnet solution is offered.

This was accompanied by the B-Track Linear Actuator range, which is designed to withstand rugged duty. All members of the B-Track family offer a low-maintenance solution on a compact footprint, with high resistance to corrosion and wash-downs complementing this capability. Altra Industrial points out that, to demonstrate a commitment to providing incredibly low-maintenance solutions for demanding applications, Warner also had its IP 69K-rated actuator and brake variants on display, which offer exceptional ingress protection.

Altra clutches and brakes, couplings, gearing and PT component product lines are marketed under 23 well-known manufacturing brands that have each been in existence for over 50 years.
