Corrosion-control technologies company Cortec’s CorrLube food-grade penetrant is a multipurpose, light-duty, nontoxic lubricating oil developed by Cortec Laboratories, which contains only US Department of Agriculture H-1 food-grade designation-compliant ingredients.

“This deep-penetrating formulation attacks rust to free up frozen parts and can be applied on machinery where incidental contact with food may occur, without any danger of food intoxication,” states Cortec.

The

CorrLube food-grade penetrant has a low surface tension on the water-oil-metal-air interfaces, which provides complete surface coverage and water displacement.

This product penetrates quickly to free rusted or corroded fasteners and facilitates easy operation of air-actuated pins and guides. The CorrLube food-grade penetrant serves as a great anticorrosion film on equipment during idle periods.

Additionally, the CorrLube food-grade penetrating lubricant contains an H-1-approved bacteriostatic preservative. This preservative retards the growth of bacteria, which are often present in conventional lubricants used in food- and beverage-processing plants.

Owing to its H-1 approval, the CorrLube food-grade penetrant can be applied on machin- ery where contact with food can occur, as well as to federally inspected meat and poultry plants, and beverage and other food processing facilities.

Meanwhile, Cortec also offers the Closed Loop Toad, which is an environment-friendly, easy- to-apply, unique combination of vapour-phase corrosion- inhibiting (VpCI) powders and antiscalants packaged in poly- vinyl-alcohol (PVA) water- soluble bags. It was developed by Cortec Laboratories to provide multimetal corrosion protection in recirculating and operating cooling systems, using VpCI technology, a superior and safer alternative to traditional corrosion inhibitor formulations, says Cortec.

“This product prevents corrosion of metals in the liquid phase, vapour phase, and the liquid-vapour interface. The bag dissolves and the VpCI is absorbed be all metal surfaces, reaching even recessed areas and interior cavities, thereby forming a strong protective molecular layer on the metal. Closed Loop Toad also contains a blend of organic-based scale inhibitors.”

It is effective for a broad range of applications to stop even the most aggressive corrosion, highlights Cortec. The product has minimal toxicity for maximum environmental protection. It does not contain free amines, nitrites, molybdates, hydrazine, or heavy metals. Using Closed Loop Toad enables safe handling and, equally importantly, workers’ productivity and safety are largely increased.

Closed Loop Toad protects inaccessible surfaces and reduces chemical consumption and cost. The PVA bags, Cortec claims, are fully biodegradable, nontoxic and nonirritating.

Its typical applications are recirculating cooling systems, fire extinguishing systems and the hydrostatic testing of pipelines, casings, tanks and valves.

Corrosion Control and Eco-Packaging
Cortec’s Bio Wrap Creped with nano VpCI technology is a corrosion inhibiting paper. Cortec’s patented VpCI technology has improved the way metals are protected in an enclosed package.

This environment-safe, nontoxic, biodegradable crepe paper combines superior multimetal corrosion protection with the proven benefits of crepe paper. As a result of the paper creping, the tensile strength is increased and a high degree of pliancy is achieved.

Bio Wrap Creped paper is designed to provide cushioning and surface protection for wrapped parts and a pooling effect for oiled parts. It is cost efficient and environmentally far more advantageous than bubble film, packaging peanuts and other cushioning materials, says Cortec.

This ‘simple to use’ paper does not contain any nitrites, phosphates or silicates. It is effective against the most aggressive environments, including humidity, sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals.

Bio Wrap eliminates the need for a variety of papers for the different types of metals and alloys, which makes it one of the most economical choices on the market, adds the company.

The product is fully recyclable and repulpable, which means it can be recycled into various other types of paper. It can also be repulped or made into or mixed with pulp to make new paper products.

This paper is suitable for the protection of products in storage and shipment in a variety of ways: end closures for shipping tubes, insert strips for recessed areas in large packages and as sheet liners or separators between products.

Typical applications are metal manufacturing, metal forging and die-casting, metalworking, finished products, electrical and electronic components and controls.

Rust Eliminator and Corrosion Protector
Cortec’s VpCI Super Penetrant is a specially developed, strong, deep-penetrating formulation that loosens frozen parts and provides universal corrosion protection. Its deep penetrating capabilities allow the user to go through as much as 13 mm of rust in just 30 minutes, claims the company.

As the product breaks through deep rust, it displaces moisture and water. Its surface-wetting and moisture-displacing properties allow it to spread rapidly and get underneath the moisture layer normally present on metal under atmospheric conditions.

Using patented VpCI technology, VpCI Super Penetrant forms an ultrathin film on metal that offers long-term protection from corrosion in extreme conditions.

“The VpCI Super Penetrant’s water-displacing characteristics make it an ideal choice for indoor and outdoor applications to equipment and components that are exposed to atmospheric conditions. “The formulation protects ferrous metals, galvanised steel, aluminium, brass, copper, babbitt metal, zinc, cadmium and silver,” Cortec states.

This product can be applied using several convenient methods to meet any application needs, including brush, hand pump and aerosol spray, or dipping.

Typical applications include maintenance, lubrication, temporary storage, small or complex metal parts, general surface treatment and the repair of squeaking household items.

The product meets the regulations set by the California Air Resources Board for Vola-tile Organic Compounds in Consumer Products.
