Rail-focused monitoring solution unveiled
A rail-focused version of SKF's Multilog IMx platform, combining rolling stock and track condition monitoring has been launched.
The Multilog IMx-Rail is a multi-channel, online condition monitoring system based on new rail-approved components. It allows operators to implement condition-based maintenance using sixteen analogue inputs and four digital channels for speed sensor inputs. The system can be mounted either internally or externally, depending on the equipment being monitored.
Available for original equipment manufacturer installation and for reftrofits, the system offers advance warning of rolling stock rotating part problems on wheel bearings, gearboxes and motors, as well as data collection from many other components. In addition, the system can provide a track health map with line faults located, identified and recorded.
The system aims to help extend maintenance intervals, reduce total cost of ownership, increase availability and avoid unplanned stoppages. It can be integrated with SKF’s cloud services for data storage, data sharing and for remote diagnostic services, to analyse and prioritise planned rolling stock maintenance.
SKF railway segment manager, Filip Rosengren comments: “Maintenance costs are the single biggest concern for the industry, due to aging train fleets and the increasing need for train availability. With IMx-Rail, operators can reduce life cycle costs, prevent on track failures and better plan maintenance. As rail traffic increases, the role of digitalisation and condition monitoring solutions, such as the Multilog IMx-Rail, will become increasingly more important to extend maintenance intervals and boost rolling stock efficiency.”
In addition, the company has a range of condition monitoring solutions for the rail sector, including systems to monitor wheel bearings, traction motors and gearboxes.
