A R1-million limited recovery vehicle tracking warranty has recently been launched.

The warranty assures that the book value of a vehicle, up to R1-million, will be paid out if the stolen vehicle is not recovered.

It is estimated that 70% of the 12-million cars on South African roads are uninsured. The main reason given is that, despite security risks, many South Africans view insurance as an unaffordable luxury.

Vehicle tracking company Cartrack offers the R1-million warranty to customers with insured or uninsured vehicles, with the aim of  increasing customers’ confidence that vehicles will be recovered in the event of a theft or hijacking.

The company explains that it uses in-house software and recovery infrastructure and deploys its recovery team both in the air and on the ground, to retrieve clients’ vehicles. The company claims to have an independently audited recovery rate of 92%.

A number of alerts such as battery disconnects, strip warnings and ignition warnings are used to signal the 24/7 control room about potential breaches of security on the vehicle.

In high-risk situations such as a car-jackings or medical emergencies, a panic button is available to alert the company’s support team to initiate appropriate assistance.

The R1-million warranty is available through all participating motor dealerships.
