Pumps for aggressive chemical media

Corrosion can cause damage to a pump's non-resistant metallic components, especially when chemically aggressive and abrasive waste water and liquid chemicals are pumped.

Shaft seals and cable inlets can be damaged by the fluids, causing the medium to enter the motor housing, which could lead to a failure of the pump. In addition, aggressive media can corrode non-resistant metallic components, which reduces the performance of the pump and may also lead to defects.

HOMA Pumpenfabrik has developed a range of stainless steel submersible pumps, aimed at improving resilience, service life and efficiency.

The individual series CH, CTP, CMX, CV, CVX and CK are equipped with discharge connectors from 2" to DN 150 and are suitable for continuous operation in the chemical industry and for the disposal of chemically contaminated waste water.

The CH430 series is also used in the chemical industry and for the transport of bilge water in shipping. Contaminated water containing solids such as sand and sludge, with a particle size of up to 10 mm, can also be pumped.

The units are made of investment cast stainless steel in order to absorb vibrations, potentially reducing stress on the bearing and mechanical seal and in turn potentially increasing service life and reducing maintenance intervals.  

The unit can be installed and operated on either a stationary or mobile basis.

To ensure continuous pumping, individual components of the CH430 series, such as the motor housing, impeller and pump housing, are made of stainless steel 1.4436.

The motor shaft is manufactured with stainless steel 1.4462, while the various mechanical connecting parts use stainless steel 1.4571.

The mechanical seal is available as an encapsulated version, to prevent the spring of the seal coming into contact with the pumped medium. This aims to eliminate the need for bellows, which tend to be a fragile component.

The strainer is installed on the pump housing and the pump block, which is made of investment cast stainless steel, is fully floodable and sealed against pressurised water. This allows aggressive media and chemicals with a pH value of 3 to 14 to be conveyed. Liquids can be transported at temperatures of up to 40 °C, with levels of 60 °C sustained for brief periods.

The submersible pumps are also available in an explosion-proof design, in line with the ATEX Directive II 2 G Ex c d II B T4(T3).

According to the manufacturer, hydraulic requirements are considered during the project planning stage using flow simulation software, giving insights into achievable efficiency levels related to lowered energy consumption and the pump’s application.

In addition to the calculation software, the company's stator winding system influences the result and contributes to efficiency levels. The components of the series can be adapted to specific customer requirements.

Pumps can be regulated and monitored remotely, with faults reported by the controllers to an application on a mobile device.

The fill level in the sump, the current measurement function and the thermal condition of the winding can also be monitored, while maintenance intervals, delay times, start-up delays and rotational direction detection are displayed.
