Prepaid meter supplier JKNV Energy says prepaid meters for water and electricity – installed on a sub meter basis – for business parks, retail centres, factories and complexes ‘makes sense’ during this pandemic.

The company mentions that prepaid meters mitigate the need to deal with late or non-payment of utilities from a lessor’s tenants, negating any additional administration which might be needed in order to improve cash flow and save money.

JKNV Energy offers three vending methods. The first method is the automated vending, which allows for easy revenue collection via national partners such as retail outlets Pick n Pay and Checkers Hyper stores.

The second method is the JKNV vending, which entails an outsourced revenue collection via JKNV Energy, and the third method is an owner-managed vending option.

The company points out that the benefits of prepaid meters include an up-to-date knowledge of how much water and electricity the lessee’s operations actually use.

This allows for accurate budgeting and the implementation of cost-saving measures such as the installation of electricity-saving light bulbs.

Another benefit is that external meter reading companies no longer need to be contracted which translates to cost savings.

The company emphasises that installing prepaid meters for business parks, residential estates, retail developments and a variety of other multi-tenanted commercial ventures just makes sense. The number of pros certainly outweighs any cons.
