European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker said last week that the coming year will be critical for the European Union (EU) in seeking to remain relevant following the UK’s decision to quit the 28-nation bloc. Bloomberg reports that, during his State of the Union address in Strasbourg, France, Juncker urged member States to stop bickering among themselves and to “focus on the areas in which Europe can give true added value”. The EU needs to listen “more intensely” to its 500-million citizens, he said.
