Project professionals association the Project Management Institute (PMI) has launched an online course to support organisational transformation.

The new course provides project professionals with the building blocks and fundamental knowledge needed to understand how organisations transform efficiently and effectively, the institute says.

Nine interactive modules that take under ten hours to complete, teach project professionals to cultivate and implement significant operational and cultural change within an organisation, allowing them to support a company-wide transformation in any industry from any level.

The new online course, which is dedicated to business transformation, is the first in an upcoming series on the same topic, the institute notes.

"The ability to nimbly transform and adapt has become a necessity for organisations, but data from multinational management consultancy McKinsey indicates that 70% of large-scale transformation efforts fail to achieve their goals," the PMI says.

“Businesses are facing unprecedented disruption. To effectively navigate this ever-changing climate, they need to evolve and grow. Enterprises should have a character to transform them from within. Enterprises should be engaging employees at all levels instead of solely relying on senior leaders or external consultants,” says PMI business development leader George Asamani.

Organisations are evolving beyond the usual top-down approach to transformation and need to leverage collective buy-in and support from their entire workforce.

According to PMI initiative Brightline’s Strategic Transformation Research, organisations that successfully transform quickly and adeptly are almost twice as likely to place an emphasis on developing internal talent which builds employee commitment to larger organisational goals.

“Transformation is not just a C-suite conversation anymore. This new course enables businesses and individual project leaders to identify the building blocks to implementing successful transformation efforts, enabling them to support these initiatives and be change-makers within their organisations,” Asamani says.

Through the new online course, project professionals will learn the five building blocks to any successful organisational transformation, best practices to shift people, mindsets and performance, and how to successfully blend business strategy with project management skills.
