Local power solutions provider Jasco Power Solutions states that its uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system, the Gamatronic UPS range, introduced onto the local market in March, provides reliable backup power when State-owned power utility Eskom is unable to maintain a steady power supply.

Jasco Power Solutions MD Marco da Silva tells Engineering News that the company has been receiving orders for the Jasco UPS system from the information and communication technology (ICT) sector, factories, warehouses, retailers and security sectors.

Engineering News last month reported that the synchronisation of the first unit of Eskom’s Medupi power station, which was scheduled for December 24, was likely to be postponed to the second week of January owing to several pre-sychronisation processes still required.

Further, Eskom’s Majuba power station’s silo collapse in Mpumalanga, which resulted in the utility rolling out load-shedding, also strengthens the case for backup energy.

Da Silva notes, in light of this, backup systems have become even more necessary for companies and individuals. He says the company is currently installing the Jasco UPS backup system for security surveillance throughout one of South Africa’s public transport infrastructure projects through a partner company.

“So far, we have overcome a number of anomalies in the harsh environment that is public transport infrastructure. Our solutions include locally manufactured ferroresonant technology,” he explains.

Jasco Power Solutions is the exclusive Southern African distributor of the Gamatronic UPS range, which was developed by Israel-headquartered power solutions and technology manufacturer Gamatronic Electronic Industries.

“Although the system is manufactured in Israel, Jasco Power Solutions integrates it into a final product locally, making it even more suitable for local conditions, depending on our assessment of the client’s environment. This is the key differentiator: Jasco Power Solutions is not a UPS supplier, but rather a power solutions provider,” Da Silva states.

He says this ensures that a solution of the highest quality is offered, yet it can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the customer, and is suited to fit the conditions of the local user.

The new range of modular UPS is available in three cabinet sizes of 50 kW, 100 kW and 200 kW. It further offers eight different power capacities per cabinet to suit a range of requirements, with the option of adding a 25 kW/kVA UPS module to these cabinets, fully scalable to more than 1 MVA in power, Da Silva elaborates.

In addition, a user can scale the UPS up as power requirements change. Modules can be added, replaced or removed using a screwdriver.

The range offers on-line double conversion, which guarantees instant availability of backup power should there be a failure of the main source of energy. It offers energy efficiency of 96% and a wide band load window, ensuring that even at less than full capacity, the UPS will run at high levels of efficiency, saving on electricity consumption and costs.

Further, the range offers high power output and takes up minimal space in any environment, while reducing cooling requirements.

Da Silva says Jasco Power Solutions offers training programmes to its clients on the proper use and maintenance of the UPS system and power quality philosophies. He details that, throughout its 29 years of existence, the company has strived to maintain high quality standards.

Jasco Power Solutions complies with ISO 9001:2008 quality management system standards.
