The National Assembly has approved the passing of the convention establishing the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Observatory.

The SKA is an international, mega-science project whose aim is to build the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope which will be co-located in Africa and Australia.

The African component includes South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.

Australia, China, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa and the UK in March became initial signatories to the convention to establish the SKA Observatory. The convention has to be ratified by each country.
