South African grain producers association Grain SA tells Engineering News that the theme of this year’s Nampo Harvest Day event is The New Generation Agri-Partner.

The yearly agricultural and livestock trade show is held in Bothaville, in the Free State, from May 13 to 16.

Grain SA of commercial services manager Johan Loxton says he expects the same number of visitors who attended last year’s show – about 72 000 – to attend this year’s event.

He explains that Grain SA is excited about the growth of the event. “The growth confirms that we are creating a valuable platform for exhibitors and visitors. It is important for Grain SA and the industry to have a platform where the latest technology, which can support sustainable production and food security, can be displayed for farmers and the rest of the industry,” he says.

Loxton describes Nampo as a networking opportunity for the agriculture industry. “It is regarded as the gateway to Southern Africa for manufacturers, distributors and input suppliers,” he says, adding that an increasing number of people in the agriculture industry of Southern Africa are visiting the Nampo event.

Visitors will be able to experience the offerings of more than 650 stalls, as well as Grain SA and Omnia Farmer patents, 4 × 4 demonstrations on the Standard Bank track, a national final of the South African ploughing competition, discussions on topical issues by Senwes Nation in Conservation and a programme geared to women. The women’s programme will include topics such as gardening, interior decorating and fashion.

Unique Experience
Loxton states that each year’s Nampo event is different and unique, owing to the latest technology on display.

He adds that the second phase of a new development, whereby the south parking area is being moved to make way for additional exhibition stands, is under way. “Over time, this development will add 50 000 m2 of new exhibition space,” says Loxton.

The event attracts grain, cattle, sheep, pig, chicken, vegetable and fruit farmers, as well as government officials from Southern Africa.

Over the last few years, various international exhibitors from countries such as Australia, Sweden, the US, the UK, Italy, Pakistan, Germany and Brazil have taken part in the show.

Tractors, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles, irrigation equipment, pumps, generators, transport and materials handling equipment, chemical products, feeding systems and services, seeds, as well as dairy equipment and products will be showcased.

Research organisations, financial services and information technology for farming will have dedicated stalls.
