South Africa’s phased mass vaccination effort is finally under way, with health workers and people over 60 receiving priority under the initial stage of Phase 2. Success in scaling up the campaign so that the majority of the adult population is inoculated before year-end is now critical if a platform is to be created not only for a recovery from the Covid-19 economic shock, but to shake this economy free from a debilitatingly long period of stagnation.
