There is still much scepticism as to whether President Cyril Ramaphosa really does have a plan for extricating South Africa from its dire economic predicament. What was clear from the recent Jobs Summit, where the above photograph was taken, is that the President is relying heavily on his expert negotiating skills to facilitate the crafting of such a plan. It’s too early to say for certain whether he has moved the needle. However, at least there is now an open acknowledgement that, in the absence of trust among the social partners, no plan will succeed, no matter how good it may be.
