Motorola Solutions, a leading provider of mission-critical communication solutions and services for enterprise and government customers, today announced Ingram Micro's Data Capture/POS division as partner and local distributer of Mobile Enterprise Solutions in South Africa. The DC/POS Division is a specialised distribution and value-add service division of Ingram Micro which offers Auto ID/Data Capture (AIDC and RFID) Point-of-Sale (POS) and mobile computing products.

Alison Ekland, Distribution Account Manager of Motorola Solutions Africa Enterprise noted Ingram’s latest acquisition of Brightpoint as an opportunity to gain deeper customer reach and relationships with key vendors, network operators and mobile virtual network operators. "Our partnership with Ingram will bring new distribution channels and a new set of resellers, in a market rich with potential" she said.

Ernesto Schmutter, Senior Director of DC/POS EMEA Ingram Micro, believes the Motorola Solutions support and training to be offered by Ingram Micro will also serve to boost Motorola Solutions’ market share in the region. “As a Motorola Solutions Authorised Training Centre (ATC), Ingram Micro will be in a position to begin reseller training from later this month. This will bring the international courses to South Africa for the first time,” he says. Ernesto adds that Ingram Micro will also ensure that locally-available stock is delivered within the next day, while stock available in Germany will be delivered within a week. Ingram Micro is also aiming to extend its presence to other African countries soon.

This move by Motorola Solutions comes in light of a growing interest in mobile enterprise solutions among all key verticals across Africa. This provides potential for Motorola Solutions to offer its products in order to improve operations in retail, ports, asset management, mining and utilities. Motorola's Enterprise Mobility Solutions are able to increase productivity, reduce costs and automate manual processes. The array of products is applicable across many verticals, and is expected to boost the local market.

Ingram Micro’s Data Capture/POS officially launched in Cape Town on 13 August and Johannesburg on 16 August.
