Largely owing to an exceptional solar resource, this country is often referred to as ‘sunny South Africa’. However, while the world is adopting solar photovoltaic (PV) technology at a record pace, this country’s solar programme is mired in uncertainty. The International Energy Agency’s ‘Renewables 2017’ report states that solar PV grew faster than any other fuel in 2016, with 74 GW worth of net additions.
