Mahindra South Africa (SA) has launched a new range of tractors and farm equipment in the domestic market.

Mahindra SA says these products will be introduced in a phased manner.

The range includes products from Sampo Rosenlew, of Finland, Mitsubishi Mahindra Agri Machinery, of Japan, and Hisarlar and Erkunt equipment, from Turkey.

Together with the Mahindra EarthMaster Yellow Metal and Mahindra Powerol Generators, these products will be offered as a ‘World of Solutions’ to the South African farmer.

To provide the farmer with this wide range of products, the local arm of the Indian group also announced the opening of seven tractor dealers across South Africa and Namibia.

They are situated in Randfontein, Brits, Strand, Nigel, Malelane, Groblersdal (with a satellite branch in Middelburg), and Windhoek.

Mahindra SA says it will soon announce the appointment of additional dealers and that it will further expand its farm equipment range to include more products from its global subsidiaries.

With Mahindra tractors and farming equipment sold in South Africa since 2019, this move means Mahindra SA will for the first time distribute, sell and service Mahindra Farm Equipment products directly through its authorised dealer network.

This also represents the next step in the group’s move “to establish South Africa as its second home outside of India”, and it follows investments in a vehicle semi-knockdown assembly plant (2018), a vehicle fitment centre (2019), a new national warehouse facility (2020) and a technical training facility (2020).

In launching the farm equipment, Mahindra says it will provide an up to three-year, 3 000-hours mechanical warranty and a two-year, 2 000-hours service kit that is to come standard with all tractors sold by Mahindra.

Mahindra SA also promises minimum tractor downtime through a three-working day turnaround promise for tractor breakdowns.

This process will be tech-enabled through the MZanzi App, which already offers a suite of services to Mahindra’s automotive customers. This app has now also been extended to the company’s farm equipment customers.

“There has never been a doubt about Mahindra’s commitment to South Africa and its people. We have made several long-term commitments to the country and look forward to further expanding our product and service offering, both to farmers and other industries,” says Mahindra SA CEO Rajesh Gupta.

“We believe that our unique service offerings will not only make Mahindra Tractors as popular in South Africa as they are across Africa and the world, but that it will also remind new, as well as existing farmer customers, of our commitment to them.”
