A solution designed to assist organisations in the monitoring and management of carbon emissions, is now available. The solution aims to simplify compulsory greenhouse-gas (GHG) reporting, while providing a near real time view on GHG emissions and the effects of manufacturing process changes.

The EcoGauge carbon tax analytics solution has been developed locally by technology business solutions company, EDS Systems.

The cloud-based system enables reports to be generated by inputting product usage or process data, allowing for the classification of emissions by source, while calculating potential liability in terms of the Carbon Tax Act.

The tool is intended to reduce the administrative burden of compliance measurement and reporting and is specifically designed for South African conditions and requirements. Training is provided for businesses to manage the solution in-house, alternatively EDS Systems can provide a holistic management service.

EDS Systems highlights an expected shift in supply chains as companies choose more carbon-conscious partners and asserts that carbon tax compliance will give organisations a competitive edge as it is likely to become a prerequisite for international and local trades. The company goes on to explain that the second phase of the Carbon Tax law is fast approaching and the current deferral in phase one is about to end, making a GHG emissions analytics tool an essential requirement for companies in the mining and manufacturing sectors
