South African pumps distributor Integrated Pump Technology has added on-site vacuum leak detection for vacuum systems to complement its existing service offering of design, supply, service and repairs of vacuum pumps and systems.

Making use of the recently launched Leybold Phoenix Quadro portable leak detector, allows for fast and effective detection of leaks on vacuum pumps and within vacuum systems.

“Although we supply the full spectrum of Leybold products, we would like to highlight our leak-detection services, which, as far as we know, none of our competitors currently provide,” comments Integrated Pump Technology business development manager John Russell.

Integrated Pump Technology, the sole distributor of Leybold Pump Systems in Southern Africa, introduced the Leybold Phoenix Quadro to the local market in March this year. The Quadro can detect leaks as small as 5 × 10–12 mbar.l.s-1 in a vacuum system or pump.

It boasts a high-quality, multi- coloured touch screen and an intuitive menu, coupled with an easy WiFi log in. All the information captured by the Leybold Phoenix Quadro is retrievable on a client’s smartphone or tablet, without requiring an app or software download.

The leak detector features an improved measurement system, with a new ultra mode that offers advanced helium sensitivity. This is further improved by the Leybold vacuum pump units’ optimised helium pumping speed, which ranges between 2.5 m3/h and 3 m3/h during evacuation. This allows for quick measurement of large volumes of helium.

The leak detection system is suitable for most industries, from research laboratories to companies that produce high-class products. “As the sole distributor of Leybold in Southern Africa, our supply spans the automotive, coatings, food and packaging, and research and development industries, as well as more specialised sectors, such as solar technology and cryogenics for space testing,” says Russell.

“As an on-site service, we can, in most cases, identify and quantify leaks on a customer’s vacuum system while the system is online, thus not effecting customers’ production or operations,” comments Russel.

All Leybold products are stocked at Integrated Pump Technology’s Boksburg offices and are easily available nationally.

“The Leybold Phoenix Quadro sets a new standard in its class with its improved measurement system and faster response times,” concludes Russell.
