Name of the Project
KG D6 ultradeep-water gasfield.

Location
About 60 km from the existing KG D6 Control & Riser Platform (CRP), off the east coast of India.

Project Owner/s
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has a 66.67% participating interest and bp (33.33%).

Project Description
RIL and bp are developing three deep-water gas projects in block KG D6 – R Cluster, Satellite Cluster and MJ.

R Cluster, situated in a water more than 2 000 m deep, is the deepest offshore gasfield in Asia. It was the first of the three projects to come onstream. The field is located about 60 km from the existing KG D6 control and riser platform (CRP) off the Kakinada coast, in water 1 850 m deep. It comprises a subsea production system tied back to the CRP through a subsea pipeline.

The Satellite Cluster is a dry gas development and comprises four discoveries, with five well subsea development in water about 1 700 m deep. It is located about 15 km east-south-east of the producing D1D3 fields in KG D6.

MJ is a gas condensate field. The project is situated in waters 700 m to 1 100 m deep, with a well depth of 4 200 m below mean sea-level in a high-temperature and pressure environment. It comprises wells connected to a subsea production, with tie-back to a floating production storage offloading vessel to process and separate liquids, and gas that will be exported to the onshore terminal through one of the existing 24-inch trunk pipelines.

These projects will use the existing hub infrastructure in KG D6 block. Peak gas production from the three fields is expected to be about one-billion cubic feet a day by 2023.

Latest Developments
RIL and bp have announced the start of production from the Satellite Cluster gasfield in block KG D6.

The cluster is the second of the three developments to come onstream, following the startup of R Cluster in December 2020. It was originally scheduled to start production in mid-2021.
