John Thompson is a division of ACTOM (Pty) Ltd and boasts over eight decades of experience and expertise as a global leader in energy and environmental solutions. With an engineering history dating back to 1824 and experience gained through cooperation agreements with international organisations such as Combustion Engineering, Rolls-Royce, Alstom, Hamon and others, John Thompson has built up a technology base that makes us leaders in this industry.

From our humble beginnings in 1954 when John Thompson under Albert de Jong (Pty) Ltd manufactured their first boiler in South Africa to celebrating 65 years of manufacturing and engineering excellence in 2019, John Thompson’s boilers, environmental solutions and engineering excellence is underpinned by innovation. We are implementing a number of exciting new technologies such as our containerised reverse pulse bag filter. There is no denying the need for sustainable environmental solutions as the world is faced with the challenges of environmental degradation, particularly in relation to air quality emissions.

John Thompson’s Air Pollution Control (APC) business unit offers the world’s most comprehensive range of air filtration and dust collection equipment for emission control, gas cleaning and product recovery. We provide sustainable industrial environmental solutions and innovative air filtration technologies to cater for various industries. In 2018, John Thompson Air Pollution Control (APC) developed and introduced an innovative containerised reverse pulse bag filter. This is not a filter in a container – the container is the filter, which makes it economical, easier to transport and quicker to install. The containerised bag filter, designated HPC, is a modular system which may utilise single or multiple modules of 12m containers. Each module contains 144 tubular bags and has an air-moving capacity of 4 m³/sec.

The modular design is well-suited for export and provides for economical transportation. The containerised reverse pulse bag filter was developed in response to the market demand for easily transportable and installable bag filters. John Thompson’s Air Pollution Control comprises of experienced air quality professionals who fully understand processes involved to ensure efficient plant operations. With many years of industry experience, our Air Pollution Control business unit is well-known in the industry for providing efficient and sustainable emission control technologies and solutions. Application knowledge and attention to detail have elevated John Thompson’s Air Pollution Control as one of the world’s engineering and environmental solutions leaders for air pollution control and dust collection products.
