A lock specifically designed for motor vehicle security, is now available in South Africa.

The lock can be fitted to new and used motor vehicles, including minibus taxis. It is installed directly onto the steering wheel shaft and provides mechanical protection once locked, as the vehicle cannot be steered.

The product can be installed by certified fitters and fitment centers. Installation takes between 45 to 60 minutes and does not interfere with the steering or operational dynamics of the vehicle.

The lock is activated and deactivated by turning a key below the steering wheel.

Zederlock South Africa distributes and installs security systems for the Southern African motor vehicle, trucking and container and logistics industries.

Although new to South Africa, the lock is available in 70 countries globally with over six-million motor vehicle security units installed to date. The company states that it has not had any thefts reported on vehicles using its locking system and that its zero-car-theft statistics cannot be matched by older technology steering and gear locks.

In addition to car and truck locks, the company also supplies an anti-theft trailer system that is aimed at preventing trailer theft and also blocks the coupling of other vehicles. The mechanism is resistant to breaking, lock picking and lock bumping. The product is universal and fits all types of trailers.

The company meets TUV international quality certification standards and carries the German TUV quality certification and a number of international patents. The products are manufactured in accordance with ISO accreditation standards 9001 and 14001.  It is also Dekra approved and supported by a number of insurance companies in Europe, the US, Asia and Russia.

According to the company, statistics demonstrate that over 45 000 motor vehicles were stolen in South Africa during 2018 and that these figures are part of a rising trend. With the launch of the new vehicle locking system, the company aims to help reverse this trend and give South African insurers and vehicle owners added protection against motor theft.

Zederlock is available at participating dealerships and certified fitment centres nationally.
