Abnormal load, machine moving, rigging and warehousing solutions provider Lovemore Bros has invested in a new 350-t-capacity hydraulic gantry, which features an innovative lifting safety system.

Designed with safety and versatility in mind, the hydraulic gantry, which the company bought in December, integrates experienced and trusted engineering and design, enabling the system to perform well under demanding conditions.

“At a cost of about R3.85-million, this is not an investment that was taken lightly,” says Lovemore Bros director Rob Lovemore, adding that, as specialised rigging tools are not used daily, it is essential for the business to have sufficient critical mass to carry the investment between projects.

“At the same time, it is critical to have access to the gantry at short notice and, therefore, the investment in specialised tooling for serious players is unavoidable. It may also explain the high cost of contracts where the gantry is in operation,” he adds.

The hydraulic gantry has increased height capabilities with improved safety features, including the Lift-N-Lock cam locking technology, which provides continual load protection through the duration of a lift. In the unlikely event that a lift cylinder loses pressure, the Lift-N-Lock safety system will immediately engage to hold the load in place, protecting the riggers and anyone else on site, as well as the load.

Another safety feature of the hydraulic gantry is that it can work in confined spaces or low overhead areas, while remaining mobile and easily transportable.

Lovemore and his co-director and brother, Bruce Lovemore, maintain that striving for versatility, functionality and safety assurance are attributes that enable a com- pany to improve and expand and, with more than 26 years of experience in the industry, they believe they have developed exactly that.

“In the relatively small rigging market of Southern Africa, versatility is the name of the game. “The ability to be versatile and never say no to a request is what customers want and we have found over the last 26 years that staying ahead is about investing in the quiet times and being ready for the busy times with a full toolbox.

“This gantry investment is about a belief in the return of the good times for Southern Africa,” says Rob Lovemore.

He adds that, to stay competitive in the industry, the company’s focus is not only on offering clients a full range of specialised services to cater for their materials handling and logistics needs, but also on investing in specialised equipment that clients would expect to find in the inventory of a quality rigging contractor.

“Lovemore Bros has a long-standing record of being innovative in the layout and design of rigging equipment. This came about from being hands-on in the early days and having a clear idea of the big difference small changes can make to working safely and more efficiently. “Attention to detail at critical moments of a design makes a huge difference to the outcome,” concludes Lovemore.
