The small hydropower plant, with a high head of water, will use the Hüscherabach stream, which flows into the Hinterrhein river, near Splügen.
Project Description
The new, state-of-the-art power plant will replace the old plant, which was built in the 1930s and owned by the municipality of Rheinwald.
The project entails the construction of a small hydropower plant, which will generate 6.1-million kilowatt hours of electricity a year from renewable-energy sources, equivalent to the average yearly consumption of 1 500 households.
The high-pressure plant comprises a water catchment, a 2.24 m penstock and the power station, which houses a 1.9 MW Pelton turbine.
