Rio de Janeiro's iconic ‘Christ the Redeemer’ statue, atop the Corcovado Mountain in the Brazilian city, is being restored ahead of its 90th anniversary in October. Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30-m high, excluding its 8-m pedestal, while its arms stretch 28-m wide. Architect Cristina Ventura, who is in charge of the restoration, is pictured here checking one of the statue's arms. Photograph: Pilar Olivares for Reuters
