Global steel production for October flat year-on-year

Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 147.3-million tonnes in October – the same level as reported for October 2021.

Africa produced 1.4-million tonnes of steel in October – a 2.3% year-on-year increase.

Asia and Oceania produced 107.3-million tonnes, up 5.8% year-on-year.

The European Union produced 11.3-million tonnes, down 17.5%, while Europe (Other) produced 3.7-million tonnes, down 15.8%.

The Middle East produced four-million tonnes, up 6.7%, but North America’s output fell by 7.7% to 9.2-million tonnes.

Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States plus Ukraine countries produced 6.7-million tonnes, down 23.7%, while South America produced 3.7-million tonnes, down 3.2%

Among the top ten steel producing countries China produced 79.8-million tonnes in October – an 11% increase on October 2021.

India produced 10.5-million tonnes, up 2.7%; Japan 7.3-million tonnes, down 10.6%; the US 6.7-million tonnes, down 8.9%; Russia 5.8-million tonnes, down 11.5%; and South Korea 5.1-million tonnes, down 12.1%.

Germany produced 3.1-million tonnes, down 14.4%, while Türkiye produced 2.9-million tonnes, down 17.8%.

Brazil is estimated to have produced 2.8-million tonnes, down 4.5%, while Iran produced 2.9-million tonnes, up 3.5%.
