Global steel production down 1.9% y/y in H1

Global steel production was flat month-on-month at 136-million tonnes in June, but production for the six months ended June 30 was down 1.9% year-on-year at 794.8-million tonnes.

The World Steel Association on Wednesday reported that production by the Commonwealth of Independent States increased 0.6% year-on-year in the six months ended June, while output in North America and the Middle East fell by 0.6% and 3.2% respectively.

Crude steel production in Asia declined by 1% year-on-year in the six months under review, while output in the European Union fell by 6.1% year-on-year. South American production was down 13.8% year-on-year.
