Global crude steel production increased 23.3% y/y in April

World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to industry body the World Steel Association increased by 23.3% year-on-year to 169.5-million tonnes in April.

China produced 97.9-million tonnes in April, representing a 13.4% year-on-year increase, while India's output increased by 152.1% year-on-year to 8.3-million tonnes.

Japan's production increased by 18.9% to 7.8-million tonnes, while US production increased by 43% to 6.9-million tonnes.

Russia is estimated to have produced 6.5-million tonnes, representing a 15.1% increase, and South Korea 5.9-million tonnes, representing a 15.4% increase.

Germany produced 3.4-million tonnes, which was 31.5% higher than output in April 2020, and Turkey produced 3.3-million tonnes, representing a 46.6% increase.

Brazil produced 3.1-million tonnes, representing a 59.3% increase, and Iran is estimated to have produced 2.5-million tonnes.

Meanwhile, Africa's production increased by 93.3% year-on-year to 1.3-million tonnes.

The European Union produced 12.9-million tonnes, representing a 42.8% increase, and other European countries 4.2-million tonnes.
