Global diversified miner Glencore has confirmed that its more than 200 sites and offices in 35 countries remain operational and without any confirmed Covid-19 cases; however, the miner is keeping a close eye on the risks and will adapt its actions accordingly.

In light of various restrictions being imposed by governments in different countries, the company has seen some impact on certain smaller operations.

The company has introduced a number of precautionary measures across its offices and assets, including having flexible or remote working arrangements, restricting non-essential travel, implementing enhanced hygiene and cleaning measures and asking staff to stay at home if they feel unwell.

“We continue to closely monitor and respond to events surrounding the Covid- 19 pandemic. Our first priority is the health and wellbeing of all of our people and the broader community.

“We have formulated our response in partnership with our expert medical advisers, taking into account advice from governments across the countries where we operate, and global bodies such as the World Health Organisation. Through our business continuity planning, we aim to minimise disruption so we can continue to source and deliver the products that our customers need,” says CEO Ivan Glasenberg.

He assures the company’s shareholders that there has been no material disruption at any of Glencore’s operating assets or within its supply chain, and says Glencore will continue providing updates and adapt to changes around the virus outbreak situation.
